Labour will attempt to force a binding vote on fracking on Wednesday, as Tory MPs mull backing a bid which would allow the opposition to put down a bill banning fracking.
According to The Guardian, Labour’s bill on fracking has Tory MPs considering backing the opposition. Lizz Truss, the most recent Tory PM, Liz Truss, pledged to lift the moratorium on shale gas extraction during her leadership campaign. Tory MPs have written to Jacob Rees-Mogg (yes, asleep in parliament Rees-Mogg) to express their opposition and concerns about fracking.
One has to wonder if the Tories can’t manage a strong and stable party, how do they think they will deliver a strong and stable country?
What is fracking and is it bad?
There is concern over the possible adverse public health implications of fracking. A 2013 review on shale gas production in the United States stated, “with increasing numbers of drilling sites, more people are at risk from accidents and exposure to harmful substances used at fractured wells.” A 2011 hazard assessment recommended full disclosure of chemicals used for fracking as many have immediate health effects, and many may have long-term health effects.
